Special Commemorations
The Friends of ANZAC Cottage continues to observe the special commemorations that are associated with the Cottage’s beginnings.
ANZAC Day: each ANZAC Day at ANZAC Cottage begins at 4pm with the Cottage open to the public. At 4pm a free craft workshop is held for children and the special Sunset Service, the last ANZAC Day service to be conducted on the Australian mainland, begins at 5:15pm. During the day, talks about the Cottage’s history are held for visitors.
Remembrance Day: on the 11th day of the 11th month, the Friends of ANZAC Cottage hold a Sunset Service beginning at 5pm to commemorate the signing of the Armistice.
Animal Memorial: a relatively new addition to ANZAC Cottage is a memorial dedicated to the animals that served alongside our servicemen and women. February 24 is National War Animal Day in Australia and is devoted to reflection and thanks to these selfless creatures that not only assisted the defence forces, but often saved lives and provided comfort for those so far from home.
